Early cave paintings found in Europe dated back to tens of thousands of years ago have been found to have the first version of the color pink! Though it does not fully resemble the true pink we know today, it was created by combining red ochre mixed with spit that was applied by hand through hollowed bone tubes. The pigment oxidized over time to be more of a brown tone, but this is where it’s believed that the color pink was first created. The color plays a large role in the painter’s community from enhancing tones in flesh giving a glow and softness to a piece or to adding to landscapes to portray calmness and beauty.
